TO ORLEANS
For
the newcomers to the tournament and for those not totally familiar with
Orleans, a map of the rink location can be found at the following link:
Bob
MacQuarrie Sports Complex
The
complex has two sheets of ice where all tournament games are played. In
addition, the complex has a pool and a snack bar. For relaxation between
or after games, the pool is normally open to the public during the following
hours, please check with the information desk if you plan on using this
service: Friday, 7:30 to 9PM; Saturday 2 to 4:15 PM and 6:30 to 8 PM; and
Sunday 11:15 AM to 1:15 PM, 1:15 to 4:15 PM.
For
other activities in the area:
-
Place
D'Orléans is a major shopping centre just a few minutes from the
Sportsplex,
-
numerous
restaurants supporting our tournament are nearby and of course,
-
Ottawa
(with its longest ice-skating surface, the Rideau Canal, and all its museums)
is also minutes away.
PARTICIPATING
TEAM INFORMATION
Teams
accepted to the tournament must provide the following to the registrar
(dnormand@sympatico.ca) prior
to the end of October:
-
Team logo
(jpeg format please) so tailored change room signs can be printed
-
Electronic
version of the Official Tournament Roster (Word format)
-
The contents
will be used for the event program, for line-up announcements, for signature
sheets and for sticker sheets, so please make sure spelling is accurate
-
The format
must be the official one, which can be retrieved from the following link:
Registration
Form and Official Roster
Other
requirements:
-
Read the
Tournament Rules & Regulations carefully, it is your responsibility
to be compliant
-
Please
note that the schedule includes a Skills Competition and an AllStar game
this year, which were added to enhance the experience for the players;
further information will be provided as we get closer to the Tournament
-
As the
round robin games go on until early Sunday afternoon, the line-up for the
semi-finals and finals may not be known until mid-afternoon; each team
eligible for participation in post round robin play needs to make arrangements
to contact the Command Centre or have someone on site who can contact the
team if they have won their way in
WHAT
WE DO FOR YOU
This
is a special tournament because we pride ourselves on doing our utmost
to make this a memorable event for all:
-
for the
coaches: volunteers pick the hustlers for each game, you do not have to
-
for the
managers: pre-filled game sheets with team stickers pre-applied, team logos
supplied by the tournament for change room doors, timekeepers and scorekeepers
are supplied
-
for the
players: loot bags, participation prizes, hustler awards, Skills Competition,
AllStar game, juices after every game, chance at the Fair Play prize, bags
carried in and out of the complex, event program, rosters called out before
each game
-
for the
parents: free admission, snack bar, pool, raffles, various vendors between
the rinks, music and ambience
RESTRICTED
HALLWAY
Because
of several problems with hall congestion experienced in previous years,
the Committee has implemented a number of procedures aimed at providing
for a better flow of players in and out of the change rooms and on and
off the ice. The following will be expected during the course of this tournament:
-
players
will be greeted at the door by volunteers who will bring their equipment
bags to the appropriate change rooms while the players register
-
the players
will then make their way to the change room accompanied by a Tournament
volunteer
-
the coaching
staff will be expected to help the players with equipment and skate tying,
no parents will be allowed in the change rooms
-
the main
hallway leading to the change rooms and to the rinks is off limits for
everyone else with the exception of tournament/arena staff and volunteers
-
there
are alternate entry points for parents & fans for both rinks both by
going upstairs in the Complex
-
please
be ready to vacate change rooms as quickly as possible after the game in
consideration of other teams arriving to play their games
-
Tournament
staff will control the change room keys; refer to them if you need to go
back to your change room at any point during a game
PRE-GAME
PROCEDURES
The
following are the procedures executed prior to each and every game:
-
please
make sure that you arrive at the rink no later than 30 minutes ahead of
your game, especially on your first game in order to familiarize yourself
with the process; your players will need to sign the roster prior to each
and every one of their games
-
coaches
are required to ensure that the lineup is accurate (cross off players not
playing for the game or for the entire tournament, otherwise we will be
running around trying to find them for signatures)
-
make sure
prior to every game that your sets of numbers on the game sheets are the
ones reflective of the jerseys you are wearing (some teams have different
sets of numbers depending on whether they are playing at home or away;
we do our best but the final responsibility for accurate information is
the coaches’)
-
you can
find out at the registration desk whether you are playing home or away
(although the schedule states this, there are sometimes occasion to switch
due to a team having only one set of sweaters which would match too closely
with the sweaters you are expecting to wear, therefore the home/away is
switched to avoid confusion; bring both sets of sweaters to every game)
-
all players
are to stay in the change rooms until such time as they are summoned; the
Rink Captain will give the teams a warning when the zamboni is about to
come off the ice
-
when the
referees are ready, the Rink Captain will come get the teams from the change
rooms; players are to line up in the hallway and follow instructions of
the Rink Captain
-
home team
goes on the ice first and leaves the ice last, no players are allowed on
the ice prior to a referee
-
non-player
team officials must go around the rink to get to the benches, there is
no crossing on the ice surface
-
there
will be a 3-minute warm-up during which the team roster will be called
out over the PA after which the players line up at the blue line
-
teams
shake hands after the game unless advised otherwise
MISCELLANEOUS
Please
note the following:
-
it may
be wise for your parents to carry a birth certificate for their child should
their age be challenged for any reason
-
make sure
you have all your equipment, including neck and mouth guards, and that
these are brought to every game; players will not be allowed to play if
the equipment is missing
-
bring
spare sticks and laces so that you do not have to start combing the neighborhood
following a breakage
-
juices
will be provided in your change room for each of your players
-
please
note that the City of Ottawa makes it mandatory for trainers to wear helmets
as they walk onto the ice surface to treat an injured player
-
the tournament
provides an official photographer therefore no one will be allowed on the
ice or at ice level to take photos of the team or players
Due to
ongoing health concerns related to the H1N1 virus, the Organizing Committee
is invoking a special mitigation clause, in the event that a team cannot
field the five skaters plus goalie as required by Hockey Canada rules.
If the team cancels prior to the start of the Tournament, the Organizing
Committee will do everything in its power to replace it. The registration
fee for the replacement team will be negotiated, and whatever portion is
collected will go to the departing team. If a team is still registered
at the start of the Tournament, but cannot field a team, the game(s) which
involve the team will be declared forfeit. The opposing team will be given
3 points for the win, while the forfeited team receives none.
Due
to the H1N1 virus, Hockey Canada has stipulated that gloves stay on during
handshakes. Please disregard the section of the official rules and regulations
of the tournament which dictate that the players need to take a glove off.
